Corporate Taxi Drivers to Receive 1 Million Won Each for 80,000 Drivers... "Payments Completed by November"
Ministry of Employment and Local Governments to Launch Support Program from the 8th
810 Billion Won from 4th Supplementary Budget...Targeting Employees Hired Before July
Must Meet Corporate Sales or Personal Income Reduction Criteria
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Starting tomorrow (the 8th), a project will be implemented to provide 1 million KRW per person to about 80,000 corporate taxi drivers.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 7th that it will launch the Corporate Taxi Driver Emergency Employment Stability Support Project in collaboration with 17 local governments nationwide. This project aims to support the employment and livelihood stability of corporate taxi drivers who have faced difficulties due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Approximately 81,000 drivers affiliated with taxi corporations whose sales have decreased due to COVID-19 will receive support of 1 million KRW per person. A supplementary budget of 81 billion KRW from the 4th additional budget will be invested.
Regarding the specific eligibility, drivers who joined before July 1 of this year and whose sales decreased during the COVID-19 period can fill out an application form and submit it to their company. The taxi company will then collect and submit these to the local government.
For drivers whose corporation’s sales did not decrease during the same period but whose personal income declined, they can submit the application form and proof of income reduction directly to the local government.
The decrease in corporate sales can first be verified through data from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. If not applicable, verification will be done through supporting documents submitted by the corporation, and notification will be made by the 14th. As of last month, out of a total of 1,672 taxi companies, 1,263 companies have officially confirmed sales decreases.
Details such as how to submit the application and payment requirements can be found in the project announcement posted on each metropolitan government’s website on the 8th. The Ministry of Employment and Labor and local governments plan to start payments from the end of this month and complete all payments except for those who file objections by November.
