Nowon-gu Hosts 'Online Book Discussion'
On the 13th and 20th, real-time online discussions using a video conferencing platform... Debates on the books 'Late Records on Child Abuse' and 'The Good Discriminator'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) will hold an online book discussion meeting.
The online book discussion, conducted using the books selected by Nowon Information Library, "A Late Record on Child Abuse" and "The Good Discriminator," will take place on the 13th and 20th at 10 a.m. via a video conferencing platform, with 10 discussants participating.
Participants are recruited through the Nowon-gu public library website, and phone inquiries are also possible. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis until 10 participants are recruited for each discussion. Before the discussion begins, applicants will receive the internet address via text message, and they can enter the video conference discussion room through the link. The discussion will be led by a professional facilitator.
The topic of the discussion on the 13th, "A Late Record on Child Abuse," is a book that records the reality of child abuse deaths in Korea. As society has become more isolated due to COVID-19, children are increasingly exposed to abuse. The discussion will explore various stories about this and seek what we can do.
The discussion on the 20th, "The Good Discriminator," is a book that examines how we, who consider ourselves good people in daily life, engage in discrimination and hatred. In modern society, where conflicts between generations, genders, and classes are intensifying, participants will identify their own sensitivity to discrimination, listen to different opinions, and gain hints on how to move toward a society that reduces discrimination.
This discussion meeting was planned to allow residents to maintain a reading culture lifestyle in a situation where only book lending services are available.
Currently, Nowon-gu public libraries operate online programs such as "School for Mothers Who Read Books," where one can learn methods of guiding children's reading, and "Book Start," which helps the starting point of life with books for infants. Through "Ontact Human Book Viewing," residents can meet human books?people who deliver knowledge rather than paper books?online.
