The sales amount reached 2.3 billion KRW, meaning that one out of every five Koreans has tasted Choco Pie Banana, and two units were sold every second.
Choco Pie Banana is an ambitious product completely renewed inside and out by a skilled research team of about 10 members who have only made Choco Pie for over 10 years. To this end, a dedicated manufacturing facility for Choco Pie Banana was newly established at the Cheongju factory. The pie’s exterior is wrapped in ‘banana white cream,’ capturing a subtle yet delicious yellow banana color. The sweet and fragrant flavor of real banana is also exquisite. The marshmallow filling contains ‘banana cream’ made with real banana, creating a softer, richer, and more abundant banana texture. The packaging also boasts a trendy banana image, presenting a brighter visual. Consumers have shown positive responses through social networking services (SNS), saying things like “A perfect banana pie inside and out,” “I really struggled to get it online and offline,” and “High completeness capturing both sweetness and softness.”
Choco Pie Banana was first launched in 2016 to commemorate Orion’s 60th anniversary. It is a sister product introduced for the first time in 42 years since the birth of Choco Pie, and during its initial month, it sold out entirely as soon as it was displayed, causing a shortage phenomenon. It received great enthusiasm from consumers, surpassing 100 million cumulative sales within six months of launch, sparking a banana craze in the food industry. Starting with Choco Pie Banana, Orion has been attempting various transformations of Choco Pie domestically and internationally to continue a new heyday. Domestically, they have released products like glutinous rice Choco Pie and spring-limited strawberry-flavored Choco Pie, while overseas, they have introduced various products only available locally, such as Choco Pie Matcha in China, Choco Pie Dark in Vietnam, and berry-flavored Choco Pie in Russia, gaining tremendous popularity.
