Strong Resident Support for 'Building Naming Project' in Jung-gu, Seoul
Assigning New Building Names, Unifying Actual Usage Names and Building Register Information... Building Owners Apply, District Office Handles Registry Office Registration Requests
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Seoyangho) is implementing a 'Building Naming Project' that enhances the value of buildings, receiving great response from local residents.
It is common to find that building registers either lack building names or do not record the names actually used.
Sometimes, people try to find a location only by the building name without knowing the exact address, which can be quite troublesome.
To resolve these inconveniences, Jung-gu has been working since this year to unify the names actually used with the information in the building register. Buildings without names are assigned new ones. Thanks to this, residents' convenience has improved and the value of buildings has also been enhanced.
First, the district checked 29,491 building registers excluding apartments and detached houses in the first half of this year, extracted 27,390 records without building names, selected them as priority project targets, and guided applications for building name changes.
Priority targets are office and neighborhood living facility buildings adjacent to major roads such as 'daero' and 'ro', as well as buildings in Jung-gu's specialized streets. Among these buildings, a field survey was conducted to check whether the registered name and the actual name used were the same, and where they differed, guidance for change applications was provided.
Then, upon application by building owners, the district proceeded with assigning building names in the building register. The building name is newly recorded in the title section of the building register. By submitting only the registration tax payment confirmation (7,200 KRW) for the building name change, the district handles the registration office's registration request service on behalf of the owners.
Support is also provided for the production and installation of autonomous building number plates instead of the existing road name address plates. These autonomous building number plates target specialized streets such as Gagu Street, Lighting Street, Nogari Alley, Hanyangdoseong, and Dasan Fortress Road, and are designed reflecting the characteristics of each specialized street. Except for 20 pilot installations on buildings in specialized streets, other applicant buildings will have plates produced and installed collectively next year.
Inquiries can be made to the Land Management Division of Jung-gu Office.
A Jung-gu Office official stated that although it is still in the early stages, 62 applications have been received so far to change building names, and by accurately recording building information in the register, residents' satisfaction is relatively high.
