[K-Insurance Trapped by Regulation - Part 2] Simplified Insurance Claims... Big Tech and InsurTech Also Join In
NHN Payco Launches Real-Expense Insurance Claim Service
Claims Possible for Over 30 Insurers
Partnerships with Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, KB Insurance, and Others
Collaborates with Major Hospitals to Promote Digitalization
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] Competition in the simplification of indemnity insurance claims services is intensifying. This is to attract consumers who feel inconvenienced by the indemnity insurance claim process as the non-face-to-face economy becomes more active. Not only existing insurance companies but also big tech and insurtech companies are successively launching related services.
According to the industry on the 6th, NHN Payco launched the 'Payco Insurance Claim' service last month in partnership with G&Net, a medical information transmission platform specialist, allowing users to easily claim indemnity insurance benefits through Payco. Indemnity medical and dental insurance subscribers from about 30 insurance companies, including Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, KB Insurance, DB Insurance, NH Nonghyup Insurance, Heungkuk Fire & Marine Insurance, and Korea Post Insurance, can easily claim insurance benefits via the Payco application (app).
This service is linked with affiliated hospital treatment data, so users do not need to separately obtain supporting documents from the hospital. By entering only basic insured information in the insurance claim menu within the Payco app, users can view treatment details at once and send the claim form. Even if a non-affiliated hospital is used, the issued documents can be photographed with a smartphone and automatically attached, making the process convenient.
Mobile healthcare startup Lemon Healthcare introduced the application 'Cheonggu-eui-shin' last month, which integrates non-face-to-face mobile certificate issuance and indemnity insurance claim functions. Cheonggu-eui-shin is an app that allows users to claim indemnity insurance benefits non-face-to-face by transmitting related treatment data to all 37 domestic life and non-life insurance companies without the complicated process of taking and sending photos of supporting documents. Users can also easily check and manage indemnity insurance claim histories by insurance company. Since it provides certificate issuance services, users can receive treatment supporting documents in electronic document form without visiting hospitals and utilize them in various ways according to their intended use.
Lemon Healthcare has opened its service at major hospitals nationwide such as Severance Hospital, Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, Kyungpook National University Hospital, and Pusan National University Hospital, and plans to gradually provide ultra-simple indemnity insurance claim services to more than 50 advanced and general hospitals nationwide, including Seoul National University Hospital, National Cancer Center, Ilsan Hospital, and Kangwon National University Hospital.
Insurance companies are also collaborating with large hospitals to promote the simplification (computerization) of indemnity medical insurance claims. After receiving treatment at the hospital, patients pay the medical fees at unmanned machines within the hospital, and by pressing the insurance claim button, all necessary hospital data is automatically sent to the insurance company in electronic document (EDI) form. As of May, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance is promoting computerization with 36 hospitals including Gangnam Severance Hospital, and KB Insurance is doing so with 26 hospitals including Bundang Seoul National University Hospital. Claims can be made via hospital apps, intermediary company apps, hospital kiosks, and internet websites. Nonghyup Insurance is also working on indemnity insurance computerization with 32 hospitals including Bundang Seoul National University Hospital. DB Insurance formed a strategic partnership with G&Net in June last year to lay the foundation for simplifying indemnity insurance claims.
