Gangseo-gu Operates Non-Face-to-Face Program for Elderly Psychological Quarantine
Providing Kits Containing Bean Sprout Trays, Beans, Exercise Posters, and Cognitive Learning Sheets to 360 Elderly in COVID-19 Vulnerable Groups
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) is operating a non-face-to-face program to alleviate the loneliness of elderly people who cannot go out due to COVID-19.
Recently, as the COVID-19 situation has prolonged, it has become difficult to use welfare centers and senior citizen centers, raising concerns about increased social isolation and depression among elderly people staying at home.
Accordingly, the district selected 360 vulnerable elderly people, including those living alone, to operate the "Elderly Heart Kongkong, Todaktodak" program to help with psychological stability and relieve loneliness.
This program provides elderly people with kits containing items such as bean sprout trays, beans, observation journals, exercise posters, checklists, and cognitive learning sheets, supporting various activities at home.
The bean sprouts in the kit are easy to grow and can be eaten once grown, which helps alleviate boredom and provides nutritional supplementation, achieving two benefits at once.
Also, the exercise posters, which can be easily viewed and followed at home, help maintain the health of elderly people, and the cognitive learning sheets are expected to aid in dementia prevention.
After providing the kits, the district will continuously check the progress and well-being of the elderly by phone, and those who complete the entire program will receive a small commemorative gift.
A district official said, "We hope this program will provide some comfort to elderly people struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation," and added, "We will continue to do our best to prepare various programs for the health management of elderly people."
