[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] The Special Committee on Joint Investigation and Recurrence Prevention related to the killing of public officials in the West Sea, formed by the Democratic Party of Korea, visited the Joint Chiefs of Staff on the 5th and urged them to make every effort to recover the bodies.
Hwang Hee, the chairman of the special committee, along with members Kim Byung-joo, Kim Byung-gi, Yoon Jae-gap, and Oh Young-hwan, visited the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the afternoon to check on the rescue operations. The committee received a report from the Joint Chiefs that currently 29 vessels, including the Coast Guard, and 5 aircraft are being operated by dividing them into sectors for rescue activities. The military is conducting searches near the Northern Limit Line (NLL), while the Coast Guard is responsible for more distant areas.
Kim Byung-joo, the secretary of the special committee, stated, "The military is searching very close to the NLL," and added, "There have been no special movements from North Korea regarding this." He continued, "They are making every effort to recover the bodies," and "I asked them to do their utmost until the end."

The committee members expressed concern about the recent indiscriminate exposure of SI (Special Intelligence obtained through wiretapping, etc.) information to the outside and urged the Joint Chiefs of Staff to be cautious about intelligence leaks for national security. The committee plans to hold a meeting on the 6th, ahead of the full-scale National Assembly audit, to review future measures for recurrence prevention.
