Gangdong-gu Wins Ministerial Award for Local Government Jobs for 4 Consecutive Years
Seoul City First to Win Both Public Announcement and Excellent Project Awards... Earns Total 90 Million KRW Financial Incentive and Gains Recognition for Job Policies
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) won the Minister's Award for the ‘Public Announcement Category’ for the fourth consecutive year and, for the first time in Seoul, also received the Minister's Award in the ‘Excellent Project Category’ at the 2020 National Local Government Job Awards, securing a total financial incentive of 90 million KRW.
The National Local Government Job Awards, hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor, evaluate and award 243 local governments nationwide based on the job creation achievements during the term of the head of the local government, who publicly announces job goals and measures.
In this evaluation, Gangdong-gu was recognized for its efforts and sincerity in securing the quality of labor through the nation’s first directly operated ‘Labor Rights Center and Mobile Worker Support Center.’
The district received excellent evaluations for promoting creative, customized job projects considering local characteristics, such as youth job creation through Angel Workshop, customized workforce training for dental clinics, and support projects for leather fashion employment and startups.
Additionally, efforts to build a self-sufficient city Gangdong, breaking away from a bedroom town-type city through the development of three key business complexes?Godeok Biz Valley, Gangdong General Industrial Complex, and the activation of advanced business complexes?were highly praised.
Notably, Gangdong-gu was the only district in the Seoul metropolitan area to receive the Minister's Award in the ‘Excellent Project Category’ for the ‘Leather Fashion Cooperative Startup Course.’ This project, part of the regionally tailored job projects led by the Ministry of Employment and Labor, links the local characteristics of Gangdong-gu, where over 30% of Seoul’s leather industry companies are concentrated, with talent development in the leather and fashion industries and job creation.
Gangdong-gu and the Seoul Eastern Women's Development Center collaborate to train professionals in the leather fashion field, specializing in leather design and nurturing entrepreneurs in related fields.
This is also a unique job creation method of Gangdong-gu, establishing a foundation for the leather fashion industry and enabling continuous and high value-added job creation.
