Ssangyong Motor, September Domestic Sales Up 13% Year-on-Year... Exports Halved
Domestic Sales 8,208 Units, Exports 1,626 Units, Total Sales 9,834 Units
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] SsangYong Motor announced on the 5th that it sold a total of 9,834 units in September, including 8,208 units domestically and 1,626 units for export. Domestic sales increased by 13% compared to the same period last year, but exports plummeted by 46%, resulting in an overall sales decline of 4.4%.
First, domestic sales increased by 20.8% compared to the previous month through expanded promotional activities both online and offline. This marks the second consecutive month of growth since July. In particular, three special models, including the Rexton Sports Dynamic Edition, led the recovery thanks to untact marketing activities. The Rexton Sports recorded 1,511 units last month, nearly doubling year-on-year and almost tripling compared to the previous month.
Exports continued to increase for three consecutive months compared to the previous month since June, following the resumption of economic activities in major markets. However, compared to the same period last year, exports remain at about half the level.
A SsangYong Motor official said, "Last month's performance increased by 22.5% compared to the previous month, thanks to aggressive promotional activities that expanded domestic sales and the gradual recovery of overseas markets despite the resurgence of COVID-19."
