Governor Won Hee-ryong: "Grateful for the Efforts and Sacrifices of Public Officials Who Protected Clean Jeju"
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Chang-won] Won Hee-ryong, Governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, expressed gratitude for the efforts and sacrifices of public officials who protected Clean Jeju with unwavering quarantine measures despite the influx of about 280,000 people enjoying Chuseok vacations during the holiday period on the 5th.
Governor Won said during the 'October Communication and Empathy Day' held via video in his office that morning, "This Chuseok became very special due to the residents' strong will that only by protecting Clean Jeju can we promise a future," adding, "From September 26, when the Chuseok holiday began, to October 4, despite 280,000 residents and tourists entering the island, there has not been a single confirmed case so far."
He continued, "Everyone worked hard and I feel reassured," and stated, "The defense of a clean and safe Jeju was a period that showed the entire nation the value of why public officials exist and why Jeju is the cleanest and safest place in South Korea."
During the holiday period, Governor Won spent time on-site, personally standing by for 5 minutes at a time, overseeing responses to special COVID-19 quarantine measures at the Autonomous Police Unit, Jeju Provincial Integrated Situation Room, CCTV Control Center, Yangji Memorial Park, 119 Integrated Situation Room, and the airport walk-through.
Governor Won said, "We must protect the safety of residents from COVID-19 and also prepare to revitalize the depressed Jeju regional economy and tourism," urging focused inspections for future economic responses and thorough quarantine measures.
He also requested, "The belief and confidence that all residents have overcome COVID-19 will greatly help in overcoming the regional economic crisis," adding, "Since the incubation period continues until October 18, each agency and department should conduct focused inspections of high-risk places and locations visited by travelers, and operate an enhanced quarantine system."
Regarding the influenza (flu) vaccination scheduled for all residents starting October 13, he requested, "Thorough management for efficient medical personnel and support," and also asked for "strict implementation of support projects to assist households and our businesses facing crisis due to economic downturn, such as the second emergency disaster relief fund, emergency employment stabilization support, and small business new hope fund support."
