Yeonggwang-gun Provides Scholarships to Children of Residents Near Hanbit Nuclear Power Plant
[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] Jeollanam-do Yeonggwang-gun (Governor Kim Junsung) recently announced on the 5th that it has selected 585 scholarship students from elementary, middle, high school, and university students who are children of residents living in Baeksu-eup, Hongnong-eup, and Beopseong-myeon, areas surrounding Hanbit Nuclear Power Plant, and will provide scholarships totaling 302.1 million KRW by next month.
The selected recipients include academically outstanding students and those with special talents in arts and sports, as well as students from disadvantaged backgrounds such as persons with disabilities, single-parent families, and basic livelihood security recipients. Scholarships of 200,000 KRW for elementary and middle school students, 300,000 KRW for high school students, and up to 1,000,000 KRW for university students will be awarded.
The total of 585 scholarship students consists of 74 elementary students, 155 middle school students, 140 high school students, and 216 university students, and it is expected to help residents who are experiencing economic difficulties due to COVID-19.
The scholarship selection results can be confirmed on the notice and announcement section of the county office website, and the scholarship funds will be individually transferred to the accounts provided in the application.

Meanwhile, the county has been providing scholarships annually based on first semester grades in accordance with the "Act on Support for Areas Surrounding Power Plants," and restricts payments if recipients have received other scholarships to prevent overlapping support under the national scholarship program.
