Gwangju Nam-gu Selected as Excellent Policy in Employment Sector by Ministry of Employment and Labor
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) announced on the 5th that its project "Training Automotive Inspection Personnel for the Second Act of Life for the New Middle-aged" won the Excellence Award at the "2020 National Local Government Job Awards" ceremony held at the Government Sejong Convention Center, hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor, receiving an incentive of 10 million KRW.
From November to December 2018, Nam-gu and Songwon University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation conducted a manpower demand survey targeting 97 automobile-related companies centered around Songam Industrial Complex in the district. Based on the results, in January 2019, they applied for the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s "2019 Regional Industry Customized Job Creation Support Project" and successfully secured 100 million KRW in national funding.
Nam-gu selected 20 trainees through an open recruitment process and invested 100 million KRW in collaboration with Songwon University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation to provide customized personnel training.
Among the 18 trainees who completed the entire training course, 14 secured new jobs and began their second lives, achieving a remarkable employment rate record.
The automotive inspection personnel training project received the highest score, an S grade (highest excellence), in the job project evaluation hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor in November 2019. Nam-gu has been promoting the "2020 Automotive Inspection Personnel Training Project" as a continuing project by investing the 110 million KRW national funding received as an incentive.

Kim Byeong-nae, Mayor of Nam-gu, said, "We are doing our best to promote the project so that not only the middle-aged and older adults can have a second act of life but also young people interested in technology can learn professional skills and find jobs," adding, "We feel great fulfillment in the project as it also helps resolve difficulties in the automotive industry."
