Chuseok Return Traffic on Expressways 'Smooth'... Busan to Seoul in 6 Hours
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] As of the morning of the 3rd, the final day of the Chuseok holiday, the return traffic heading back to the Seoul metropolitan area after visiting hometowns has begun, and nationwide highways are generally flowing smoothly.
According to Korea Expressway Corporation, as of 9:30 a.m. today, on nationwide highways including Gyeongbu Expressway, Jungbu Expressway, Seohaean Expressway, and the Seoul Ring Expressway (Capital Region 1st Circular Road), most vehicles are traveling at their normal speeds without congestion sections below 40 km/h in both directions.
If departing from major cities nationwide by passenger car at 10 a.m. today, the estimated travel times to Seoul Tollgate are: Busan 5 hours 50 minutes, Mokpo 3 hours 40 minutes, Ulsan 5 hours 10 minutes, Gwangju 5 hours 10 minutes, Daegu 3 hours 50 minutes, Gangneung 3 hours 10 minutes, and Daejeon 1 hour 30 minutes.
The Expressway Corporation stated, "Although there is some congestion in the return direction, it is at a lower level than yesterday," and added, "There are still vehicles returning at the final stage, but the flow is expected to be similar to a usual weekend."

The expected traffic volume today reaches 4.05 million vehicles nationwide. Among these, approximately 300,000 vehicles are moving from the Seoul metropolitan area to local regions, and about 490,000 vehicles are moving from local regions to the Seoul metropolitan area.
