Dead body of endangered species 'Pureun Badageobuk' found in Jeju

Jeju Maritime Police Agency announced on the 2nd that they retrieved the carcass of the protected marine animal, the green sea turtle, which was floating on the northern breakwater of Hallim Port in Jeju City, and handed it over to the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency.
At around 9 a.m. on the 2nd, a citizen taking a walk near Hallim Port discovered the turtle carcass and reported it to the Hallim Police Substation. At around 9:05 a.m., a maritime police officer from Hallim Police Substation arrived at the scene and, after consulting with Professor Kim Byungyeop of Jeju National University, confirmed that it was the carcass of a protected marine animal, the green sea turtle.
The green sea turtle found that day measured approximately 26 cm in length and 19 cm in width, and there were no visible signs of illegal capture. The carcass was handed over to the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency.

Meanwhile, a Jeju Maritime Police official urged, “All green sea turtles are designated as endangered species and are protected in most countries worldwide. Collecting, harming, slaughtering, or capturing them is prohibited, so please report immediately if you find a carcass.”
