Yeosu City Appeals for Participation in 'Chuseok Holiday Travel Stop' at October Staff Regular Meeting
Held as a 'Non-Face-to-Face Video Conference' Ahead of Chuseok to Prevent COVID-19 Spread
29 Citizens Awarded, Attendance Limited to Under 50 People
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu City held its October regular staff meeting ahead of the Chuseok holiday on the 29th via a non-face-to-face video conference in the city hall meeting room.
This measure was taken in response to the government's implementation of a special two-week COVID-19 prevention period for the Chuseok holiday starting the previous day.
As the period around the Chuseok holiday is expected to be a turning point for the spread of COVID-19, Yeosu City decided to use this regular meeting as a starting point to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to concentrate all administrative efforts on maintaining the city as a COVID-free area.
The meeting was attended by 29 citizens who received awards, and the event was held while strictly adhering to quarantine rules such as minimizing attendance and maintaining seating at least 2 meters apart to ensure social distancing.
Mayor Kwon Oh-bong of Yeosu stated at the meeting, “The reason Yeosu City has maintained its status as a COVID-free area and is becoming a city of national healing is thanks to the cooperation of its citizens,” and added, “Let us continue to protect our COVID-free city by strictly following quarantine guidelines.”
He also appealed to refrain from visiting hometowns or relatives and from returning to hometowns during this Chuseok holiday to prevent the spread of COVID-19 due to large-scale holiday travel, urging participation in the “Movement to Stop Travel.”
Political circles and civic groups were asked to pool wisdom to accurately analyze the causes and prepare realistic alternatives regarding the expansion of the annex building of the government office.
To the staff, he urged, “We must no longer overlook the inconvenience to citizens,” and “Let us all unite and focus solely on the citizens.”
