Coway "62.4% of Employees Not Visiting Hometown" ... 'Corona' Chuseok
Survey on This Year's Chuseok Plans for 1,014 Employees
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daeseop] It has been found that 6 out of 10 Coway employees will not be returning to their hometowns for this year's Chuseok holiday. The number of employees trying to minimize travel due to concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) has increased.
According to Coway on the 25th, a survey on 'this year's Chuseok plans' conducted among employees showed that 62.4% answered that they would 'not go to their hometown.' Additionally, 58.1% of all respondents said that 'the holiday is not particularly welcome.' Among them, 39.1% answered that it was 'because there is nothing to do due to social distancing.'
As for how to spend time without going to their hometown during the holiday, 'spending time with family or resting' accounted for 79.1%. Responses for 'going on a trip' and 'engaging in cultural activities such as movies and shopping' were only 8.4% and 7.8%, respectively.
For parents' holiday gifts, 'contactless (untact) remittance' ranked first. Among all respondents, 74.2% said they would 'give cash or gift certificates.' This was followed by 'health supplements' (12.9%) and 'agricultural, fishery, and livestock products' (4.7%). As it became difficult to deliver gifts directly due to refraining from visiting hometowns, the preference for previously popular items such as health supplements and agricultural, fishery, and livestock products was found to be low.
This survey was conducted from the 16th to the 22nd among 1,014 employees through the company's internal communication channel. Coway interpreted that the attitude of office workers toward the holiday has changed amid the atmosphere of minimizing interregional movement and the designation of the Chuseok holiday as a special quarantine period due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19.
