POSCO Construction Enhances Efficiency of COVID-19 'Ontact Work'
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] Posco Engineering & Construction announced on the 17th that its work efficiency has improved as most of its internal work methods were converted to ontact due to concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
As social distancing has become a daily routine, Posco Engineering & Construction is conducting internal meetings, events, and training sessions, which were previously face-to-face, through video platforms (Zoom, YouTube).
Earlier this month, when Typhoon Haishen passed inland, about 80 domestic and overseas site managers and headquarters officials of Posco Engineering & Construction monitored the damage and response status at construction sites through video conferences. Previously, attending meetings required individual travel, consuming significant time and costs, but video conferencing has enabled more efficient work.
Recently, the Town Hall Meeting, an employee communication event, was also held via video. It was a session where management and the millennial generation shared improvement ideas, with remote workers participating in real time.
Posco Engineering & Construction has also converted the entire curriculum of the ‘Construction Management Academy,’ the largest in-house training program, to online education. Employees at sites, offices, and those working from home can conveniently enhance their job expertise through online access.
As the efficiency of the ontact work method has been verified, Posco Engineering & Construction plans to conduct recruiting for new hires in the first half of next year via video. The online recruiting will introduce job tips and roles by department, and the Posco Engineering & Construction YouTube channel will provide company introductions and recruitment procedures.

A Posco Engineering & Construction official said, “Initially, the shift to ontact work methods was a last resort amid concerns over the spread of COVID-19, but there have been opinions that work efficiency has actually increased, so we will continue to improve work methods even after the pandemic.”
