Focus on Ontact 'Boseong World Tea Expo' Opens on the 17th
World's Best Tea Tasting Competition Kicks Off, Runs Until the 20th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] As the opening of the first-ever online contact (Ontact) Tea Expo in Korea approaches in Boseong-gun, the green tea capital, attention is focused on the festival format being tested for the first time.
According to Boseong-gun on the 16th, the county will hold the "8th Boseong World Tea Expo," which will be held from the 17th to the 20th on the official website of the Boseong World Tea Expo, as the first Ontact event through pre-recorded and live broadcasts.
At the World Tea Expo, visitors can purchase premium teas produced in Boseong at affordable prices, and enjoy various attractions suitable for the whole family from home, including tea cuisine, tea field healing talk shows, and the Boseong Tea Online Golden Bell.
In particular, the most eye-catching programs are the 6th Korea Tea Blending Competition held as the opening event on the 17th and the 8th World Tea Tasting Competition held on the 18th.
As the entire process of top tea experts evaluating fine teas will be broadcast live for the first time in Korea, it is expected to offer a unique experience not only for tea enthusiasts but also for those new to tea culture.
Also, the tea field healing concert by Chu Ga-yeol and Ryu Ji-kwang, held in the beautiful tea fields spanning one million pyeong, is highly anticipated. Online home shopping will also be available.
From September 17 to 20, the Boseong Tea Online Home Shopping, which operates continuously during the Boseong World Tea Expo, will sell teas from about 20 representative tea manufacturers of Boseong at a 50% discount.
On the 19th, a "Joint Ancestral Rite for the Holiday" will be held, hosted by the Boseong Hyanggyo Confucian Association, for expatriates who find it difficult to visit their hometowns due to COVID-19 and for the entire nation. The joint rite will be broadcast live through the official website's broadcast channel of the Boseong World Tea Expo and will be edited for easy viewing by the general public and aired nationwide at 9 a.m. on Chuseok day via Boseong-gun's YouTube channel.
There will also be a nationwide event. From the 17th to the 20th, those who subscribe to the Boseong World Tea Expo YouTube channel, leave comments, and apply for setting up a ceremonial table on the expo’s official website (limited to 1,000 people) will receive a gift of Boseong green tea (20g) and Boseong rice (500g) to place on their ceremonial table.
Various tea-based dishes will also be introduced. A tea cuisine master will showcase various tea dishes made using Boseong tea ingredients in two episodes. The program featuring the master’s tea cuisine will introduce tea dishes that can be made at home, such as lotus root chips, green tea fried salad, and green tea nabak kimchi.
There are also programs that interact with online viewers. Participants in the Boseong Tea Online Golden Bell and the online stamp rally can win prizes such as tablet PCs, bicycles, green tea, and Boseong rice.
A county official said, "The Ontact 'Boseong World Tea Expo,' held for the first time in Korea, will offer a rich program that everyone nationwide can enjoy together," adding, "We hope this expo will be an opportunity to share the beauty of Boseong tea fields and the deep taste of Boseong tea."
