Convenience Store CU Sells 10,000 Coupons for 50% Off Cupbap
Various Events Held for Honchujok Participating in Chuseok Social Distancing
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] Convenience store CU is offering half-price coupons to support those spending Chuseok alone by participating in social distancing this Chuseok holiday.
CU announced on the 15th that starting from the 17th, it will sell 10,000 coupons on the e-commerce platform TMON, allowing customers to purchase Ottogi cup rice at a 50% discount. These coupons can be found on TMON's Essential Special Deals page, and once payment is completed, the coupons will be issued as mobile coupons via text message to the purchaser's phone. Each person can purchase up to 5 coupons.
Using these coupons, customers can buy 13 delicious Ottogi cup rice series products, including bestsellers such as Buldak Mayo Rice Bowl, Toktok Kimchi Albap, and Tuna Mayo Rice Bowl, at half price at CU stores nationwide.
In particular, these coupons can be combined with Ottogi cup rice's 2+1 promotion, so during the giveaway period (September to October), using 2 coupons allows customers to purchase 3 items for the price of 1. SKT membership holders can also apply telecom discounts, receiving up to 79% off.
CU will also hold a live broadcast on TMON TVON for one day only on the 24th of this month. During the TVON live broadcast, TMON’s show host will appear, taste Ottogi cup rice, introduce the products, and present various benefits. During the live broadcast, customers can purchase as many coupons as they want without quantity limits, and among those who purchase while watching the broadcast, 10 customers will be randomly given an additional coupon.
CU prepared this event for the “Honchu” (people spending Chuseok alone) because the government has urged nationwide participation in social distancing during this Chuseok holiday, and it is expected that the number of people spending Chuseok alone in various places instead of returning home will greatly increase.
In fact, according to statistics from Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) on the 9th, the number of seats sold on September 8 and 9 for train tickets during the Chuseok holiday period (September 29 to October 4) was about half of last year’s Chuseok seat sales (850,000 seats).
