[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] Woo Sang-ho, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea who became controversial for his so-called 'KATUSA remarks,' apologized on the 10th, saying, "I am always grateful for the hard work of the soldiers."
On the morning of the same day, Rep. Woo posted on Facebook, "I am always grateful for the hard work of active-duty and reserve soldiers who have devoted themselves to the country," adding, "The dedication of KATUSA soldiers to the nation is no different."
He stated, "I deeply apologize for causing hurt through this incident."

Earlier, on the 9th, Rep. Woo sparked controversy by saying in a media interview regarding allegations of preferential military leave for the son of Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae, Mr. Seo, "KATUSA itself is an easy military service, so the controversy is meaningless." In response, active-duty and reserve KATUSA soldiers issued a statement demanding an apology from Rep. Woo and an explanation from party leader Lee Nak-yeon, who is a former KATUSA member.
