Damyang-gun Invites Dr. Kaejwon Ko, Expert Researcher from National Research Foundation of Korea
[Damyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Jeonnam Damyang-gun (Governor Choi Hyung-sik) announced on the 7th that it has been selected for the Korea Research Foundation's second half professional career personnel invitation support project and has invited Dr. Ko Jae-kwon, former head of the Rice Breeding and Cultivation Division at the National Institute of Crop Science, Rural Development Administration.
Dr. Ko Jae-kwon is a researcher who devoted over 30 years at the Rural Development Administration to rice variety development, having developed about 90 varieties including Sindongjin rice and Hopum rice, greatly contributing to increasing the yield and enhancing the quality of Korean rice.
He also worked as a resident researcher in Japan for the Rural Development Administration, compiling a booklet on Japan's rice policy and research directions, and was awarded the International Cooperation Award by Japan for his dedication to agricultural research exchange between Korea and Japan, possessing extensive information on Japanese agriculture.
Recently, as a senior advisor of the Food Industry Technology Team at the Rural Development Administration, he has supported projects to enhance rice quality such as the highest quality hub complex project and the expansion of rice production cost reduction projects (sparse planting, drone direct seeding), sharing direction in the rice cultivation field as a professional.

Lee Cheol-gyu, director of the Agricultural Technology Center, said, “He will be a great asset to the regionally specialized customized rice variety development that the county is focusing on,” adding, “Through the development of customized new rice varieties unique to Damyang, we will not only enhance the differentiated regional brand value but also contribute to the revitalization of the new 6th industry.”
