Increased High-End Sets by 1.5 Times... Hyundai Department Store's Chuseon Gift Main Sale Until the 28th
Expansion of Premium Gift Sets Over 400,000 Won... Increase in Hanwoo Sales
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] Hyundai Department Store announced on the 6th that it will hold the '2020 Chuseok Gift Set Main Sale' for 16 days from the 14th until the day before the Chuseok holiday, the 29th, at 15 stores nationwide including the Apgujeong Main Store. During the main sale period, special exhibition halls of 150 to 200 pyeong (approximately 495 to 660 square meters) will be opened at each of the 15 stores nationwide, selling fresh foods such as Korean beef, dried yellow corvina, and fruits, as well as health foods and processed foods.
Hyundai Department Store plans to increase the quantity of premium gift sets priced over 400,000 KRW by 1.5 times compared to last year’s Chuseok and expand the variety of Korean beef products. This is due to the growing demand for premium Korean beef every year. In fact, during the Chuseok gift set sales periods in 2018 and 2019, sales of Korean beef gift sets priced over 400,000 KRW increased by 13.8% and 15.7%, respectively, compared to the same periods in the previous years.
The 'Number Nine Premium Set (750,000 KRW)', which includes top-grade 1++ (9) Korean beef paired with luxurious groceries such as truffle salt (100g), truffle cheese cream sauce (90g), truffle mustard sauce (90g), and black winter truffle olive oil (250ml), will be offered. Also featured are the 'Hyundai Hwashik Korean Beef Set' (consisting of 1.1kg steamed ribs, 0.9kg sirloin roast, 0.9kg strip steak, and 0.9kg bulgogi, priced at 640,000 KRW), which is raised traditionally by feeding boiled forage; the 'Natural Pasture Korean Beef Gift Set' (consisting of 0.9kg sirloin roast, 0.9kg brisket for soup, and 0.9kg bulgogi, priced at 450,000 KRW), raised on a 330,000㎡ ranch in Gangjin, Jeollanam-do; and the 'Antibiotic-Free Cow Korean Beef Gift Set' (consisting of 0.9kg sirloin roast, 0.9kg sirloin steak, and 0.9kg soup meat, priced at 480,000 KRW), raised on fermented feed in Hongcheon, Gangwon-do. Various premium Korean beef gift sets will be showcased.
For dried yellow corvina, a representative holiday gift along with Korean beef, differentiation is made with premium salt. The quantity of specialized salted dried yellow corvina (three types of traditional salts: sea salt, bamboo salt, deep ocean water salt, and dried yellow corvina seasoned with French Gu?rande salt), which was limited to 600 sets during last year’s Chuseok gift set sales period, will be doubled to 1,200 sets. Four types will be offered, including 'Yeonggwang Chamgulbi' (250,000 KRW, 10 pieces over 20cm), seasoned with 'bamboo salt' made by placing Shinan solar salt in bamboo tubes and baking it in a loess kiln. Considering its popularity among customers, the selling price has been lowered by 10,000 KRW compared to last Chuseok.
In the fruit category, the Shine Muscat, which has gained tremendous popularity as a premium fruit, will be offered in the largest quantity ever. Last Chuseok, 10 tons of Shine Muscat were offered in 4,000 sets; this year, the quantity has been expanded by more than 50% to a total of 6,000 sets, 15 tons. Hyundai Department Store secured a large quantity of premium Shine Muscat by negotiating with major production areas such as Sangju and Gimcheon in Gyeongsangbuk-do a year before the holiday. The number of Shine Muscat product types has also more than doubled compared to last year, now consisting of 11 items. Representative products include the 'H Sweet Shine Muscat Set' (110,000 to 130,000 KRW), which only selects Shine Muscat with a sugar content of 17 Brix or higher, and the 'Shine Muscat & Melon Set' (85,000 to 95,000 KRW), a mix of Shine Muscat and melon.
In addition to Shine Muscat, Hyundai Department Store has increased the quantity of apple mango by more than three times compared to last Chuseok. This is because trendy fruits like apple mango are especially popular as gifts instead of traditional ritual fruits. Hyundai Department Store offers a total of seven items, including 'Jeju Wang Mango,' one of the premium apple mango varieties, and Brazilian apple mango. A representative product is the 'Hyundai Premium Apple, Pear & Jeju Wang Mango Set' (140,000 to 160,000 KRW).
