Gijang-gun gathered the county governor, deputy governor, heads of departments and divisions, and heads of towns and townships to assess the damage caused by Typhoon No. 9 ‘Maysak’ and to prepare in advance for Typhoon No. 10 ‘Haishen’.
According to the typhoon intensity forecast by the Korea Meteorological Administration, there was a tense atmosphere in the meeting room over the expectation that “a stronger one is coming,” an attendee reported.
County Governor Oh Gyu-seok emphasized, “Disaster recovery is a war. It must be carried out quickly, accurately, and safely. Rapid recovery is the best proactive preventive measure.”
Governor Oh continued, “Preparation for Typhoon No. 10 Haishen is best achieved through the recovery of the damage caused by Typhoon No. 9 Maysak. All departments must thoroughly carry out both ‘damage recovery’ and ‘preparation’ simultaneously from today until the 7th when the typhoon passes.”
Gijang-gun has begun reviewing support measures for residents, including small business owners such as aquaculture farmers, sashimi restaurants, butcher shops, and restaurants, who suffered damage due to power outages and typhoon damage caused by Typhoon No. 9.
Priority will be given to receiving damage reports from affected residents, and various support measures will be thoroughly examined.
Regarding the power outage that affected about 4,300 households in some areas of Gijang-gun during Typhoon No. 9, safety guidelines for emergencies such as power outages will be disseminated to all residents to prepare for Typhoon No. 10.
Regarding the power outage, Governor Oh visited the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) Gijang branch on the 3rd and requested prompt restoration from Kim Gyu-hwan, head of the KEPCO Gijang branch.
On the morning of the 4th, through a phone call, Governor Oh received a response from Kim Gyu-hwan that “electricity supply will be almost fully restored by the end of today.”
