Gwangju City Lowers 'Public Property Usage Fees' Amid Prolonged COVID-19 Pandemic
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 3rd that it will reduce the usage fees for public properties owned by the city to support small business owners and others who are experiencing economic difficulties due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
This reduction in public property usage fees was promoted to reduce the burden on small business owners and to participate in the good rent reduction campaign, marking the second support following the first round.
The second support targets small and medium-sized enterprises, small business owners, individual business operators, and individuals using Gwangju city administrative properties, with retroactive application from last month, providing a five-month discount benefit until December.
The support includes adjusting the usage fee rate from the existing 50 per 1000 to 10 per 1000, reducing the usage fee by 80%, and extending the usage and profit period by the amount of time the rental facilities were not actually used.
Gwangju City will finalize the support plan through the Public Property Deliberation Committee, receive applications from tenants, and proceed with usage fee refunds and other measures.

Lee Jeong-sik, Director of the City Autonomy Administration Bureau, said, “This support was promoted to practice the Gwangju spirit of sharing and solidarity by helping each other in difficult times and to alleviate the burden on tenants who are practically in a state of business suspension. We hope that this will lead to the spread of the ‘good rent reduction campaign’ being carried out in the private sector throughout Gwangju City.”
