610 Violations of Quarantine Measures, 132 Obstructions of Epidemiological Investigations, Total 1,630 People, 12 Detained

View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Since the outbreak of COVID-19, a total of 1,630 people have been punished or are under investigation for violating the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act, including violations of quarantine orders, obstruction of epidemiological investigations, and violations of gathering and assembly bans.
According to data titled "Judicial Processing Status for Violations of the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act Since the Outbreak of COVID-19," submitted by the National Police Agency to Kim Won-i, a member of the Health and Welfare Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea (Mokpo), as of the 26th of last month, 610 people violated quarantine orders, 758 violated gathering bans, 108 violated assembly bans, and 132 obstructed epidemiological investigations, totaling 1,630 people who have been punished or are under investigation for violating the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act.
Among them, 922 people were sent to the prosecution with a recommendation for indictment (12 detained), and 76 were processed with non-prosecution. Currently, 632 people are under investigation.
The 1,630 people who have been judicially processed include those related to the recent COVID-19 spread, such as the Gwanghwamun rally and Seongbuk Sarang Jeil Church, and police investigations are still ongoing. With the addition of strengthened social distancing measures, it is expected that cases of violations of the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act will increase further in the future.

Assemblyman Kim Won-i stated, "Establishing strict law and order to prevent the re-spread of COVID-19 is the top priority now," and added, "The police must respond thoroughly on the front lines to antisocial crimes such as violations of quarantine orders and obstruction of epidemiological investigations occurring during this national crisis."
