Dongjak-gu Promotes Health and Safety Management Solution (IOT) for Elderly Living Alone
Promotion of health and safety management solution project for 220 elderly living alone until December... Delivery of COVID-19 relief supplies including ramen and porridge to 530 elderly living alone
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) is promoting a health and safety management solution (IOT) project for socially and health-vulnerable elderly living alone until December.
This project was prepared to prevent solitary deaths and ensure safety management of elderly living alone who are vulnerable in living environment and health by establishing a real-time safety confirmation system through the application of Internet of Things technology (IOT).
In May, the district completed the selection of 220 subjects through the needs and field survey of the elderly, and installed IOT devices in the homes of elderly living alone, matching each subject with a life support worker 1:1 to monitor safety in real time.
The installed IOT devices detect temperature, humidity, illuminance, CO2, TVOC, etc., checking fire and gas safety, and take care of the elderly’s health by providing guidance to cooling shelters for subjects whose indoor temperature exceeds 35℃ during cold waves or heat waves.
Also, depending on the elapsed time without movement of the subject, the status is displayed in four stages: ▲Normal (0~8 hours) ▲Caution (8~12 hours) ▲Alarm (12~24 hours) ▲Danger (over 24 hours), enabling more meticulous monitoring.
If an abnormality is suspected, the assigned life support worker immediately contacts the subject, and in emergencies, actively takes measures such as linking to 119 emergency services.
Furthermore, until the 4th, the district supports ‘COVID-19 Overcoming Livelihood Supplies’ for 530 elderly living alone in the region.
According to the strengthened social distancing level 2.5 in the metropolitan area, life support workers visit homes and deliver food packages consisting of ramen, porridge, canned food, seaweed, etc., and dental masks in a non-face-to-face manner.
In addition, the district will carry out a customized housing environment improvement project for elderly living alone until December.
This includes installation and repair of housing equipment such as ▲insulation materials and insect screens ▲wallpaper and flooring replacement ▲replacement of old boilers to prepare for severe cold and heat, as well as support for ▲disinfection and pest control ▲cooling and heating supplies.
For more details, inquiries can be made to the Elderly and Disabled Division.
Lee Sunhee, head of the Elderly and Disabled Division, said, “We will do our best to protect vulnerable elderly exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 and heatwave,” and “We will continue to implement more thorough elderly welfare through various care services and support.”
