Among individuals or organizations with merits in welfare and self-reliance support for the homeless, two local governments, Gyeongnam Province and Busan City, were selected.
The province stated that it was recognized for remarkable achievements in strengthening the safety of homeless facilities, protecting the rights of the homeless, and creating a foundation for self-reliance in preparation for the outbreak of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
In particular, this year, efforts to strengthen quarantine measures for homeless facilities, which are considered vulnerable facilities amid the prolonged COVID-19 situation, were highly evaluated.
When new homeless individuals were admitted to homeless facilities, guidance was provided to prepare temporary accommodations as separate living spaces to prevent overlap with existing residents' movement paths, and assistance was given to help the homeless receive government emergency disaster relief funds.
