[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Mokpo National University (President Park Min-seo) announced on the 2nd that 14 projects were finally selected for the Korea Research Foundation's '2020 Basic Research Projects in the Academic, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Science and Technology Fields,' which are supported through a rolling selection by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and ICT during July to August.
The Basic Research Projects in the Academic, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Science and Technology Fields aim to strengthen creative and challenging basic research and nurture outstanding researchers to expand South Korea's future capabilities, enhance the national research and development (R&D) achievements of universities, and strengthen academic research capabilities.
This time, Mokpo National University had a total of 14 projects selected, including 1 mid-career research project in humanities and social sciences (Professor Park Chan-gi, Department of Japanese Language and Literature), 1 first-life research project in basic science and engineering (Professor Shin Young-hak, Department of Computer Engineering), 1 academic research professor project (Type A) in humanities and social sciences (Academic Research Professor Jang Won-yong, Sports Industry Research Institute), and 11 academic research professor projects (Type B) in humanities and social sciences (including Lecturer Kim Jae-han from the Department of Law and 11 others).
In particular, Mokpo National University received significant support with 12 projects selected in the humanities and social sciences academic research professor support program, which builds a seamless research safety net for non-regular researchers of the next generation in academia and systematically fosters competitive researchers, providing strong momentum for the research activities of capable academic research professors (lecturers) within the university.
Going forward, the principal investigators selected for the projects will receive a total of over 500 million KRW in support for periods ranging from 1 to 5 years per project, conducting active basic research in various fields such as 'Changes in Perceptions of the Joseon Tongsinsa in Japan,' 'Deep Learning-Based Data Research in Medical Imaging,' 'Development of Public Sports Facility Design Models,' and 'Measures to Sanction Illegal Filming.'
