Nationwide Largest 'Seongnam Moran Folk 5-Day Market' Temporary Closure Extended
[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Moran Folk 5-Day Market in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, will extend its temporary closure until the 4th of this month.
The Moran Folk 5-Day Market Merchants Association made this decision to participate in preventing the spread of community infections as the social distancing level 2 measures have been extended. All stores will participate in the temporary closure.
The Moran Market had closed five times from February 24 to March to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and three times from August 16 to 30.
Yoo Jeom-su, president of the Moran Folk 5-Day Market Merchants Association, explained, "Given the nature of the market where tens of thousands of people gather nationwide, it seems difficult to open amid worsening infection spread," adding, "We gathered merchants' opinions that customer safety and preventing local infection spread are priorities, so we decided to extend the closure."
The Moran Market opens on days ending with 4 and 9 in the Yeosu Public Housing District, Seongnam-dong 4929 area, Jungwon-gu, covering a parking lot of 17,000㎡. It is also equipped with auxiliary facilities (5,575㎡) such as rest areas, a support center from basement level 1 to ground level 2, and restrooms.
