On the 1st, KT announced that it will start a pilot service for the commercialization of AI serving robots in collaboration with MFG Korea. The AI serving robot can be seen at the Mad for Garlic Bongeunsa Hyundai I'Park Tower branch located in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
The AI serving robot is equipped with four trays and serves ordered food sequentially to up to four tables when the destination is entered. With precise driving technology, it can freely move through narrow passages between tables and flexibly avoid obstacles to reach its destination.
It is designed to minimize shaking during braking so that drinks or food do not spill when served to customers. It is equipped with cutting-edge software such as 3D spatial mapping technology and autonomous driving technology independently developed by KT Convergence Technology Institute.
KT and MFG Korea aim to reduce the physical labor burden on employees, such as quickly moving heavy tableware, through the AI serving robot, allowing staff to focus on customer service. As contactless services have become common in the COVID-19 era, it is expected to elicit positive responses from customers. MFG Korea plans to discover various customer scenarios while piloting the AI serving robot.
KT first introduced the Giga Genie hotel robot in December 2019 and released the second-generation hotel robot with significantly enhanced performance and functions last April. Starting with this AI serving robot pilot service, KT plans to continuously expand its AI robot business sector.
