View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] It has been confirmed that Typhoon Bavi, the 8th typhoon, recorded a maximum instantaneous wind speed of 66.1 m/s when passing near Gageodo.
The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) announced that after restoring the automatic weather station (AWS) equipment on Gageodo, it was confirmed that the maximum instantaneous wind speed reached 66 m/s around 5 p.m. on the 26th, when the typhoon was closest.
As Bavi moved northward, the strong winds caused the wind direction and speed sensors on Gageodo to be lost, but wind data up until just before the damage was preserved.
This maximum instantaneous wind speed is not from a KMA observation station, so it is not included in the official rankings. According to observation station data, the record for the highest daily maximum instantaneous wind speed was set by Typhoon Maemi in 2003, which recorded 60 m/s in Jeju.
