September is the Month for Paying Vehicle Environmental Improvement Charges
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) announced that owners of vehicles using 'diesel' as fuel are obligated to pay the environmental improvement charge for the second term of this year.
The charge applies for the period from January 1 to June 30 of this year and is levied based on the vehicle's engine displacement and age. If the vehicle ownership changes during this period, the charge will be calculated proportionally according to the ownership duration.
The payment period is from September 14 to October 5, and if payment is not made within this period, a notice with an additional 3% surcharge will be sent in November.
The environmental improvement charge can be paid directly at financial institutions or via bank cash deposit/withdrawal machines (CD/ATM). It can also be conveniently paid by accessing the Seoul City online tax payment system.

The environmental improvement charge system aims to have polluters bear the costs necessary for environmental improvement, thereby encouraging pollution reduction and reasonably securing investment funds needed for environmental improvement projects.
