An 80-Year-Old Woman in Hwasun Tests Positive for COVID-19 During Self-Quarantine
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Young-gyun] Hwasun County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gu Chung-gon) announced on the 31st that a woman in her 80s residing in Dongbok-myeon tested positive for COVID-19.
The 144th confirmed case in Jeollanam-do is the mother of the 49th confirmed case in Jeollanam-do, who resides in Seoul, and had contact with the 49th case before the latter was confirmed positive.
As a close contact, she tested negative in the first diagnostic test and entered self-quarantine from the 19th.
During self-quarantine monitoring the previous day, she complained of symptoms such as a sore throat, prompting a dedicated official to visit immediately, collect a specimen, and request a second test, which returned positive early this morning.
The county urgently transferred the confirmed patient to Bitgoeul Jeonnam National University Hospital for isolation and hospitalization, and completed emergency disinfection of the patient's home and surrounding area.
Also, since the 144th confirmed case was diagnosed during self-quarantine, it was determined that there were no additional movement paths or contacts.

Governor Gu Chung-gon stated in a press release, “We are cooperating with quarantine authorities to form a 'quarantine last line of defense' and are making every effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, but this alone is not enough,” adding, “Citizens must thoroughly follow and cooperate with quarantine guidelines equivalent to level 3 to control the spread of COVID-19.”
