Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) is responding to the increasing demand for urban agriculture by establishing an urban agriculture experience learning center and has started operating it in compliance with the enhanced social distancing guidelines.
The district has created and operates the urban agriculture experience learning center at the second sports park along the Jungnangcheon Stream to support healthy leisure activities for local residents and promote urban agriculture.
The district developed the urban agriculture experience learning center with a total area of 4,200㎡ and 630 plots. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the district adhered to strengthened social distancing rules by dividing distribution times into morning and afternoon sessions over three days from the 28th to the 30th to disperse participants. Without any opening ceremony or queuing, each individual was allocated a personal garden plot and received 72 cabbage seedlings and 10g of radish seeds.
In accordance with COVID-19 prevention guidelines, the district disinfects convenience facilities such as shade tents and benches inside the urban agriculture experience learning center at least once a day and provides hand sanitizers and spare masks during operation.
Participants in the urban agriculture experience learning center plant the provided seedlings and seeds and cultivate crops through routine maintenance activities such as cleaning, watering, and weeding.
The district plans to support professional management for the smooth operation of the urban agriculture experience learning center, including plowing, eco-friendly pest control, and crop safety inspections.
