Wando-gun Reduced Damage by Preemptive Measures Against Typhoon 'Bavi'

View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 28th that Typhoon No. 8 ‘Bavi,’ which was expected to cause significant damage to the region, fortunately passed without causing major damage.
Typhoon ‘Bavi’ formed on the morning of the 22nd at 9 a.m. about 200 km south-southeast of Taipei, Taiwan, and moved northward along the West Sea.
The maximum instantaneous wind speed in our area was recorded at 26 m/s, and the average rainfall was 58 mm.
According to the damage status compiled by the county as of 3 p.m. on the 27th, there were a total of 3 cases: 2 road facility damages, 0 fishing port (harbor) facility damages, and 1 other case. No damages to fisheries aquaculture have been reported so far.
Private facilities suffered no serious damage except for damage caused by strong winds blowing off waterproofing materials on private house roofs and debris from vacant houses.
Currently, county office and eup/myeon staff are continuing to investigate the damage caused by the typhoon, and emergency restoration work is being expedited where recovery is possible.
Public facilities will be entered into the National Disaster Management System (NDMS) by the 2nd of next month, and private facilities by the 5th of next month. Afterwards, support decisions will be made through detailed investigations.
Typhoon No. 8 ‘Bavi’ was expected to cause major damage as its path and wind intensity were similar to Typhoon No. 13 ‘Lingling’ last year and Typhoon No. 15 ‘Bolaven’ in August 2012.
Accordingly, the county held an emergency meeting to prepare for the typhoon, designating officials responsible for vulnerable areas to conduct monitoring and response activities in advance.
Additionally, residents in frequently flooded households were instructed to evacuate in advance to evacuation facilities such as village halls.
