Hankook Tire Opens 'Donggeurami Car Wash' to Create Employment Opportunities for People with Disabilities
[Asia Economy Reporter Su-yeon Woo] Hankook Tire & Technology (hereinafter Hankook Tire) announced on the 27th that its subsidiary-type standard workplace for the disabled, Hankook Donggurami Partners, has opened the ‘Donggurami Car Wash’ in the underground parking lot of the Hankook Tire headquarters building located in Pangyo, Gyeonggi Province.
Hankook Donggurami Partners is striving to create jobs for the disabled through new business ventures with this car wash opening. The ‘Donggurami Car Wash,’ which opened in August, was planned to provide stable jobs for socially vulnerable groups such as the disabled and to improve employee welfare.
After a preliminary training period at the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled Gyeonggi Customized Center, five employees, including those with severe disabilities, are currently working and providing services for company vehicles and employees’ cars. Hankook Donggurami Partners plans to expand its scale in the future, aiming to increase the number of employees to more than 10 by the end of this year.
Since its establishment in 2015, the number of employees at Hankook Donggurami Partners has nearly doubled from 78 (42 disabled, 36 non-disabled) to a total of 142 (74 disabled, 68 non-disabled). The company continues to support employment growth and qualitative development through additional job development. In particular, despite the employment contraction caused by the recent COVID-19 pandemic, it increased the employment of disabled persons by about 15% compared to the first half of this year.
Hankook Donggurami Partners is a subsidiary-type standard workplace for the disabled established in 2015 by Hankook Tire, the first domestic tire company to invest in such a venture. It is engaged in expanding employment for the disabled, stabilizing employment, improving treatment to maintain long-term service, establishing a safe and pleasant working environment, operating early adaptation programs for work, and conducting various activities to raise awareness of disabilities.
