Gyeonggi-do Raises Emergency Level to Highest Stage 4 in Preparation for Typhoon 'Bavi'
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has raised the emergency level of the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters to the highest level, Level 4, ahead of the landfall of Typhoon No. 8 "Bavi."
On the 26th, Gyeonggi Province held a countermeasure meeting against Typhoon Bavi, chaired by Kim Hee-gyeom, the first deputy governor of the province, to check the response status.
At the meeting, Deputy Governor Kim said, "This typhoon is very strong and damage is expected," adding, "The most important thing is to prevent casualties, and please respond thoroughly to avoid damage to crops and fisheries."
The Korea Meteorological Administration expects Typhoon No. 8 Bavi to pass through the Gyeonggi Bay waters around 3 a.m. on the 27th.
Accordingly, the province raised the emergency level of the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters to Level 4 starting from 10:30 a.m. on the same day.
In particular, the province is strengthening surveillance more than three times a day and conducting preemptive control over 236 areas at risk of casualties, such as Sewolgyo (洗越矯) bridges and riversides in 24 cities and counties including Yongin City. Additionally, it conducted a comprehensive inspection of 199 locations damaged by heavy rain from the 1st to the 11th, 2,237 vulnerable areas, and 815 sites prone to landslides and steep slopes.
