On the 25th, Mayor Kim Seung-su, Wansan Police Chief Choi Won-seok, and Deokjin Police Chief Han Do-yeon held a joint press conference at the city hall briefing room and announced, “We plan to conduct special inspections on the compliance with the administrative order prohibiting gatherings targeting 12 high-risk industries and over 1,200 locations in the Jeonju area.”
Furthermore, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the city has decided to take strong measures by providing various incentives, including special closure support funds, to high-risk facilities that have closed their business premises.
This inspection is a follow-up measure after upgrading the COVID-19 quarantine level to “Social Distancing Level 2” starting from the 23rd and issuing an administrative order prohibiting gatherings for 12 high-risk industries.
The special inspection aims to block the spread of COVID-19 in the local community and will be conducted jointly by the city and police through a joint task force for high-risk facilities for two weeks until the 6th of next month.
The joint task force will consist of a total of 357 members and will operate as 7 teams with 2 to 4 members per squad, totaling 150 squads.
During this period, the joint task force will continuously inspect the operation status of 1,203 high-risk facilities, including ▲clubs and room salons, ▲colateks, ▲danran pubs, ▲emotional pubs, ▲hunting pochas, ▲karaoke rooms, ▲indoor group exercise facilities, ▲door-to-door sales businesses, ▲buffets, and ▲PC rooms.
Based on on-site inspection results, the city will notify facilities that do not comply with the administrative order of a first warning and impending charges, and if violations are detected again, immediate prosecution will follow. Business owners and users will be fined up to 3 million KRW under the Infectious Disease Prevention Act.
Additionally, if a COVID-19 confirmed case occurs at a business that did not comply with the gathering ban, the city will claim compensation for quarantine costs and take strong administrative actions such as strengthening hygiene inspections.
To encourage business closures, the city plans to reduce economic damage by providing a special closure support fund of 1 million KRW per business to high-risk facilities that have closed their premises in accordance with the gathering ban order.
Moreover, to enable minimal economic activity, if business representatives wish, the city will prioritize hiring them as hopeful workers in various short-term public job projects promoted by the city and prepare various support measures.
In addition to high-risk facilities, the city will strengthen guidance and inspections for multi-use facilities subject to administrative orders requiring compliance with quarantine rules such as visitor log management, mask-wearing, and maintaining distance between users. These include ▲private academies, ▲arcades, ▲indoor wedding halls, ▲performance venues, ▲movie theaters, ▲bathhouses and saunas, ▲indoor sports facilities, ▲multi-rooms and DVD rooms, ▲funeral halls, and ▲religious facilities.
Wansan Police Chief Choi Won-seok stated on the day, “We will proactively support police forces for the safety of Jeonju citizens and the well-being of the local community.”
Deokjin Police Chief Han Do-yeon also said, “As COVID-19 spreads in the local community, the safety of many citizens is threatened and anxiety is growing. Going forward, the police and administration will work together and actively cooperate until COVID-19 is eradicated.”
