US Republicans Nominate Trump as Presidential Candidate... Trump Delivers Impromptu On-Site Speech
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The US Republican Party officially nominated President Donald Trump as its candidate for the November presidential election at the party convention held in Charlotte, North Carolina on the 24th (local time).
President Trump's nomination was conducted through a public vote called 'Roll Call' in which 336 delegates, six from each of the 50 states and US territories, participated and announced the results of the state primaries.
With overwhelming support from the delegates of each state, President Trump secured victory about 1 hour and 10 minutes after the Roll Call began.
Immediately after the nomination, President Trump appeared at the convention hall. Although he is scheduled to deliver his acceptance speech on the last day of the convention, the 27th, he began speaking at the convention hall from the first day.
President Trump claimed, "We have made a tremendous response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the economy is showing a V-shaped recovery," adding, "I will talk about this on Thursday," previewing his acceptance speech as the presidential candidate.
