Yangcheon-gu Urgently Conducts Full Survey of Visitors to August 15 Gwanghwamun Rally
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) recently announced that due to a surge in COVID-19 cases among participants of the August 15 Gwanghwamun rally, there is concern about local transmission, and thus a full survey of rally participants was conducted.
The district received a list of visitors who stayed for more than 30 minutes around Gwanghwamun on August 15 from Seoul City. On the 22nd, 111 district employees were urgently deployed to check whether visitors had undergone COVID-19 testing and if they showed any symptoms.
As a result of the investigation, contact was made with 226 people, among whom 192 had visited the Gwanghwamun area and 34 had passed through the area by vehicle or other means.
Among them, a total of 69 people underwent COVID-19 diagnostic testing, with 67 testing negative and 2 awaiting results.
The district advised those with symptoms such as fever and cough to get tested immediately and informed them that if COVID-19 spreads due to failure or delay in testing, the district will seek compensation.
Additionally, asymptomatic individuals and those who tested negative were encouraged to self-isolate until the 29th and were urged to comply with quarantine rules such as mandatory mask-wearing.
Furthermore, those who have not yet been tested were advised to undergo diagnostic testing as soon as possible.
Moreover, based on this investigation, separate measures will be taken later for the 37 individuals who could not be contacted.

Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, emphasized, “Those who stayed in the Gwanghwamun area for more than 30 minutes or participated in the rally on August 15 are urged to visit screening clinics and get tested as soon as possible,” and added, “We ask for active cooperation in this investigation for the safety of our residents.”
