Additional COVID-19 Case Reported in Gokseong, Jeonnam... Spouse of Jeonnam Patient No. 47
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Since the first COVID-19 case was confirmed in Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do on the 19th, additional confirmed cases have occurred on the 22nd.
According to Gokseong-gun on the 22nd, the additional confirmed case is a woman in her 30s, Ms. A, residing in Ogok-myeon, Gokseong-gun, identified as the spouse of Jeonnam case number 47.
Ms. A had been under self-quarantine since the 19th and tested negative in the initial test. However, after requesting a retest on the 21st, she was confirmed positive by the Jeonnam Provincial Institute of Health and Environment at around 3:40 a.m. on the 22nd.
Ms. A was transferred to Gangjin Medical Center at around 8:30 a.m. and is currently receiving isolated treatment.
In Gokseong-gun, since there have been cases where initial negative test results changed to positive upon retesting, a proactive retest was conducted for this confirmed case, and detailed movement paths are currently being investigated together with epidemiological investigators.
Since the first confirmed case in Gokseong-gun, a total of 182 people were tested four times from the 19th to the 21st, all of whom tested negative.
However, as seen in this confirmed case, initial negative results can change to positive, so dedicated officials are regularly checking the situation to ensure that those currently under self-quarantine and active monitoring do not violate quarantine rules, maintaining thorough management.
The county has set up a screening clinic in the parking lot of the Health Medical Center and is guiding contacts to be quickly identified and tested. Since the movement paths of this confirmed case mostly overlap with Jeonnam case number 47 and the individual had been under self-quarantine since the 19th, it is expected that the number of people subject to testing will not be large.
Additionally, the county plans to promptly identify the movement paths of the confirmed case and notify the public through disaster alert texts and SNS.
As of the 21st, Jeollanam-do has raised social distancing to level 2, reflecting the very serious COVID-19 situation.
County Governor Yoo Geun-gi emphasized, “We ask all residents to refrain from going out as much as possible and to avoid unnecessary gatherings and meetings. Above all, wearing a mask is essential. Following quarantine rules is the best way to prevent COVID-19.”
