View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] As the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) resurges and confirmed cases rapidly increase in major domestic industries, emergency measures such as building closures and transitions to remote work have been implemented to strengthen quarantine efforts.
According to the industry on the 22nd, a COVID-19 case was confirmed at Samsung Display's Asan, Chungnam business site, causing work at the construction site to be halted. One employee of a subcontractor working on electrical tasks for Samsung C&T tested positive for COVID-19. The company sent all construction workers home and closed the construction site.
Samsung Electronics also confirmed a COVID-19 case among researchers working at the LED Technology Building in the Giheung Campus located in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province the previous day. The company closed the LED Technology Building and switched all employees to remote work. A confirmed case was also reported at the Samsung C&T office building in Sangil-dong, Gangdong-gu, Seoul, leading to the building's closure.
On the same day, a COVID-19 case was confirmed at LG Electronics' Gasan R&D Campus. One employee at LG Electronics' Appliance Research Institute at the R&D Campus was classified as a close contact of a confirmed case the previous day, was pre-quarantined, and received a final positive diagnosis that morning.
LG Electronics plans to disinfect and close the entire building where the confirmed case occurred until the weekend. About 100 employees on the 14th floor, where the case was found, will work remotely. Earlier, on the 17th, an employee at the LG Building near Seoul Station tested positive, and on the 15th, a COVID-19 case was confirmed at LG Display's Paju business site, prompting quarantine measures.
LG Electronics has shared internal guidelines in accordance with the social distancing level 2 measures centered around the metropolitan area due to the COVID-19 resurgence. They are restricting external visitors from entering all business sites and buildings. Business trips between sites, face-to-face meetings, group training sessions, and group dinners are also prohibited.
One office worker at SK Hynix's Icheon Campus R&D Center in Gyeonggi Province also tested positive for COVID-19. SK Hynix implemented emergency quarantine measures and isolated members who had overlapping movement paths. The floor of the building where the employee works will be disinfected and closed for one day.
