Foreigners and Institutions Net Selling Pushes KOSPI Below 2280 Level
[Asia Economy Reporter Kum Boryeong] On the 20th, the KOSPI index fell below the 2280 level due to strong net selling by foreign and institutional investors.
As of 2:34 PM that day, the KOSPI index stood at 2279.23, down 3.44% (81.31 points) from the previous trading day.
The KOSPI opened at 2339.91, down 0.87% (20.63 points) from the previous session, and the decline widened amid net selling by foreigners and institutions.
In the KOSPI market, foreigners and institutions net sold 316.8 billion KRW and 583.7 billion KRW respectively. Meanwhile, individuals net bought 888.6 billion KRW.
By sector, transportation and warehousing (4.69%), securities (4.23%), and retail (4.58%) declined, while pharmaceuticals (0.24%) rose.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Samsung Electronics (3.81%), SK Hynix (4.27%), NAVER (3.49%), and Hyundai Motor (5.47%) fell, but Celltrion (0.33%) rose.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ was at 789.76, down 3.54% (28.98 points) from the previous trading day.
The KOSDAQ opened at 816.63, down 0.26% (2.11 points) from the previous session, briefly rebounded with an upward trend, but then declined further due to strong net selling by foreigners and institutions.
In the KOSDAQ market, foreigners and institutions net sold 225.6 billion KRW and 156.4 billion KRW respectively. Meanwhile, individuals net bought 397.9 billion KRW.
By sector, telecommunications equipment (5.7%), semiconductors (6.37%), and chemicals (3.73%) declined.
