Jeonnam Province Selected for 'Regional ICT Innovation Square Development' Contest
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province announced on the 20th that it has been finally selected for the 'Regional ICT Innovation Square Creation' public contest project, promoted as part of the Korean New Deal's core task of nurturing digital innovation talents, securing 5.1 billion KRW in national funding.
The Ministry of Science and ICT's 'Regional ICT Innovation Square Creation Project' is a project aimed at spreading software (artificial intelligence, blockchain) education on the latest technologies to local industries and fostering professional personnel.
To strengthen the 4th industrial ecosystem, the country is divided into four regions and the project has been promoted since this year. Jeonnam is grouped with Gwangju, Jeonbuk, and Jeju regions.
Through this project, Jeollanam-do plans to ▲ build an AI complex education center ▲ develop specialized curricula in AI, blockchain technologies, and Jeonnam's strategic sectors (Blue Energy, Blue Transport, agriculture and fisheries) ▲ and nurture 1,000 professionals by 2023.
Among these, the educational courses will be operated in three types: basic courses, advanced courses, and region-specialized courses.
In particular, the region-specialized courses will operate demand-tailored curricula through partnerships with local companies related to Jeonnam's Blue Economy strategic projects, focusing on nurturing talents specialized in the Honam region.
The AI complex education center will consist of a 'professional education hall' equipped with high-performance equipment for AI practical training and program development, and an 'ICT Complex' to be used as a community space for networking among developers and employees.
It will be established in a 350-pyeong scale community center in Gwangyang City, with a total project cost of 7.05 billion KRW (5.1 billion KRW national funding, 1.95 billion KRW local funding).
The project institution, Jeollanam-do Information and Culture Industry Promotion Agency, will begin creating the complex education center space from the end of this month.
Additionally, recruitment of trainees for AI and blockchain software education courses will begin, and the courses are scheduled to be operated in earnest from October.
