Ford Explorer PHEV Model Launched in Korea... Price 73.9 Million KRW
Ford's First Domestic PHEV Model
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Ford Sales Service Korea officially launches the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model of the Ford Explorer, a leader in the imported large sports utility vehicle (SUV) market. The ‘Explorer PHEV’ is Ford Korea’s first PHEV model introduced domestically, combining the driving performance and spaciousness of the Explorer with fuel efficiency.
Ford Korea added the PHEV model following the launch of the 6th generation gasoline model of the Explorer last November. David Jeffrey, CEO of Ford Korea, said, "The Explorer PHEV is an evolved Explorer with more powerful performance and fuel efficiency. The Explorer 2.3 Limited offers the advantages of a large SUV such as spaciousness, convenience and safety assist features, and driver-focused technology, and the PHEV model adds powerful driving performance and economy."
The Explorer PHEV is equipped with a 3.0L V6 GTDI engine. It delivers a maximum output of 405 horsepower and a peak torque of 57.3 kg·m/3000rpm from the gasoline engine, combined with a maximum output of 75 kW/2500rpm and peak torque of 30.6 kg·m/1500rpm from the electric motor. Additionally, it features a rear-wheel-drive-based all-wheel-drive system and a 10-speed automatic transmission, providing excellent driving performance.
Furthermore, through a parallel hybrid architecture, it simultaneously realizes the maximum output and torque of both the gasoline engine and electric motor. Combined with intelligent all-wheel-drive technology, power and driving feel have been significantly enhanced.
The battery’s single-charge driving range is 29 km in urban areas, 31 km on highways, and 30 km combined. Drivers can actively select the electric driving mode to use battery power as the main power source or use the gasoline engine as auxiliary power. The Explorer PHEV offers four electric modes: EV Auto, EV Now, EV Charge, and EV Later. This allows drivers to choose the optimal driving mode according to the situation and experience the best fuel efficiency.
The fuel efficiency in electric mode is 2.3 km/kWh in urban driving, 2.6 km/kWh on highways, and 2.4 km/kWh combined. The combined fuel efficiency of gasoline and electric motor modes is 12.7 km/L.
The Explorer 3.0 PHEV, like the Limited model, is equipped with various driver assistance and convenience features. It comes standard with Co-Pilot 360 Assist Plus, Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, and a hands-free liftgate that can be easily opened and closed with a simple kick motion.
