United Future Party Proposes 'Priority Recommendation System for Proportional Representatives' to Foster Talent from Honam
"Now to Rebirth as a Pro-Honam Party, Not Anti-Honam"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Jeong Un-cheon, chairman of the People’s Integration Special Committee of the United Future Party, stated on the 20th, “We will promote a priority recommendation system for proportional representation candidates from the Honam region to nurture talent from Honam.”
At a press conference held at the National Assembly Communication Office on the same day, Jeong said, “We aim to find a fundamental solution to overcome regionalism by codifying in the party constitution and regulations that 25% of the top 20 proportional representation candidates for National Assembly members be recommended from the Honam region.”
Jeong emphasized, “We will promote a campaign to establish a second Honam electoral district. We plan to appoint honorary members from all 41 local governments in the Honam region to all members of the United Future Party,” adding, “Each member will form sisterhood ties with the respective local governments and establish communication channels to focus on budget promotion, legislation, and resolving regional issues.”
Jeong explained, “We will now transform from a non-Honam party to a pro-Honam party,” and “Following volunteer activities at flood damage sites in the Honam region, several members have already applied for local governments with which they have ties or interest.”
Jeong stated, “Yesterday, Kim Jong-in, the emergency committee chairman, visited Gwangju, knelt down, and offered a sincere apology. We will elevate the spirit of May 18 to the spirit of national integration,” and “We had honest conversations with the May 18 organizations and agreed to actively seek appropriate honors for the victims in the future.”
