According to Daejeon City on the 20th, confirmed cases included two people in their 20s, two in their 50s, and one in their 60s. The list of confirmed cases also included attendees of the Gwanghwamun rally on the 15th and their family members.
A(#178, in their 50s), residing in Gwanjeo-dong, Seo-gu, tested positive for COVID-19 at Konyang University Hospital on the 19th after attending the Gwanghwamun rally. A was asymptomatic when tested, and considering that A currently resides in Sunchang-gun, Jeollabuk-do, the city plans to transfer patient management to Sunchang-gun.
B(#179, in their 60s), the spouse of confirmed case #175 who attended the Gwanghwamun rally, was also diagnosed with COVID-19 while asymptomatic. The city conducted diagnostic tests on the cohabiting family members of case #175 the previous day. As a result, the child tested negative, and B was confirmed positive on the 20th.
Three additional confirmed cases unrelated to the Gwanghwamun rally also occurred in the region. C(#180, in their 50s), residing in Sinseong-dong, Yuseong-gu, was confirmed positive after visiting a screening clinic on the 13th due to symptoms such as fever and muscle pain.
Additionally, D(#181, in their 20s, Eoeun-dong, Yuseong-gu) developed symptoms including fever and muscle pain on the 18th while residing in Seoul, came down to Daejeon, underwent testing, and was confirmed positive for COVID-19.
E(#182, in their 30s), an overseas entrant, was tested on the 19th upon arrival and was confirmed positive while self-quarantining at the UST dormitory in Yuseong-gu. Investigations revealed that E had symptoms such as fever and muscle pain starting from the 18th.
The city and quarantine authorities are currently conducting epidemiological investigations on the five confirmed cases and plan to disclose their movement routes through the city’s website in the future.
Meanwhile, Daejeon had no additional confirmed cases for about 20 days since the 18th of last month. However, since the 10th of this month, additional confirmed cases related to the resurgence of COVID-19 in the Seoul metropolitan area, such as the Sarang Jeil Church in Seoul and the Gwanghwamun rally, have increased, raising concerns about a local resurgence.
