Inauguration Ceremony of New President on the 18th... Farewell Ceremony for 10th and 11th President Gong Sun-jin Held
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Han Su-hwan, the 12th president of Dong-Eui University, has taken office. His term is three years, until August 19, 2023.
On the 18th at 2 p.m., Dong-Eui University held the inauguration and retirement ceremony for the president at the Seokdang Art Hall of Dong-Eui University.
Due to COVID-19, only about 100 people attended, including department heads, major professors, academic committee members, the president and executives of the faculty council, and team and office heads of administrative departments.
The first part of the president inauguration and retirement ceremony proceeded in the order of handing over the school flag, a congratulatory speech by Koo Young-soo, chairman of the Dong-Eui Academy Foundation, a retirement speech by President Gong Soon-jin, an inauguration speech by the new president, and the awarding of a plaque of appreciation.
The second part, the full faculty meeting, was held with major work reports by department, education on the Anti-Graft Act, and education to improve awareness of disabilities.
Gong Soon-jin, who served as the 10th and 11th president, said in his retirement speech, “During the six years I served as president, we achieved results such as establishing ‘Dong-Eui Vision 2025’ for the university’s short- and long-term development, carrying out various national projects, establishing the Office of Educational Innovation for innovation in university education and nurturing future talents, and building an efficient management and evaluation system for university operations. In this process, there was devoted help from the Dong-Eui community.”
The new president Han Su-hwan graduated from Busan Gaya High School and Yonsei University with a degree in Electronic Engineering, and earned a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Florida Institute of Technology (Florida Tech.) in the United States.
He joined Dong-Eui University as a professor in 1997 and has served as director of the Broadcasting Academy, dean of the Graduate School of Visual Information, dean of the College of Visual Information, director of the Academic Affairs Office, head of the Office of Educational Innovation, and director of the Dong-Eui PRIME Project Group. Since August 2017, he has served as vice president for academic affairs.
In his inauguration speech, President Han Su-hwan said, “As intelligent information technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and big data converge throughout society and industry, unprecedented changes are occurring, and universities are required to nurture talents and innovate accordingly. We will expand the development of specialized educational programs that can cultivate students’ practical core competencies and strengthen our unique specialized educational brand for nurturing collaborative talents.”

He also said, “Along with the four specialized fields of Smart IT Manufacturing Technology, Tourism and Convention, Korean Medicine Bio and Healthcare, and Public Administration and Social Welfare Services, we will continue efforts to discover and support new fields that can lead the future of the university.”
