In response to the United Future Party-Jeon Kwang-hoon linked attacks... Kim Jong-in says, "What does the rally have to do with the opposition party?"
[Asia Economy Reporters Lee Ji-eun and Kim Hye-min] Kim Jong-in, the emergency committee chairman of the United Future Party, responded to the Democratic Party's attack that the party had condoned the August 15 rally led by Pastor Jeon Gwang-hoon by saying, "What does the rally have to do with the opposition party?"
On the 18th, right after the 11th anniversary memorial service held at the National Cemetery at President Kim Dae-jung's grave site, Kim met with reporters and responded this way to the Democratic Party floor leader Kim Tae-nyeon's demand for an apology.
Earlier, Floor Leader Kim had insisted, "They must apologize to the people for effectively condoning the August 15 rally."
At the memorial service that day, Kim also said, "In the current situation where unity and harmony are desperately needed, an atmosphere where everyone can humbly restrain their power should be created." When a reporter asked about this, he retorted, "Power must know how to restrain itself and have the will for harmony; otherwise, unity and harmony cannot be achieved. It doesn't work if only one side makes all the efforts."
Meanwhile, Kim Eun-hye, spokesperson for the United Future Party, stated in a commentary that day, "The United Future Party has no relation with Pastor Jeon Gwang-hoon," adding, "We have never been together. It just looks pitiful that they are trying hard to link unrelated things."
