Busan City announced on the 18th that it will commence the ‘Busan Jangnim Surface Treatment Leading Complex Development Project,’ which was selected in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s Root Industry Leading Complex Pilot Project competition.
‘Surface treatment’ is a representative root industry that forms the foundation of key industries such as machinery, automobiles, and shipbuilding. However, due to poor working conditions and an aging workforce, issues such as labor shortages, outdated environmental facilities, wastewater discharge complaints, and lack of corporate support facilities have caused complaints and solidified its image as an outdated industry.
Busan City is promoting this project to transform the existing surface treatment complex into a district where eco-friendliness and culture coexist, aiming to resolve issues such as youth employment avoidance and poor working environments.
A total of 18 billion KRW (5 billion KRW national funds, 2 billion KRW city funds, 11 billion KRW private investment) will be invested to create a ‘youth-friendly eco-friendly leading surface treatment complex.’
Plans include ▲eco-friendly upgrades to the joint wastewater treatment plant ▲construction of convenience facilities for workers within the complex ▲installation of cultural facilities ▲establishment of a joint logistics warehouse.
The Busan Jangnim Surface Treatment Association plans to utilize the current association site to build apartment-style factories and transform the area into an eco-friendly surface treatment specialized complex by supporting smart factory construction and advanced surface treatment technology.
